Since retiring as Premier of Western Australia in 2006, Geoff Gallop has returned to his pre- political career as an academic.
In the role of public intellectual— his post-political thinking — he has focused on matters of the self in society: of contemporary politics, pragmatics, fundamentalism, fairness, and the meaning and importance of well-being for public policy and the person.
From the international, to the national, and down to the individual, Gallop brings a measured voice to debates that are universal, relevant and personal.
Gathered from public speeches and newspaper columns, along with new essays, the chapters include: ‘The World Today’, ‘Putting the Public Sector to Work’, ‘Rights and Responsibilities’ and ‘A Fair Society’.
Professor Geoff Gallop is Director of the Graduate School of Government at the University of Sydney. He was Premier of Western Australia from 2001 to 2006. He is now a regular media columnist and public speaker in high demand across Australia.
